NHS England has produced the succinctly titled consultation, "conditions for which over the counter items should not routinely be prescribed in primary care".

The consultation proposes to advise GPs not to prescribe for a range of short-term, minor illnesses.

These include conditions NHS England deems to be "self-limiting" (will heal without treatment), or which can be treated with "self-care", or over-the-counter medicines.

The intention is to produce a consistent, national framework for CCGs to use.

You can find details of the proposal, including a list of conditions that will be affected here, or by clicking on the 'consultation proposal' button below.
