Consultation on items that should not be routinely prescribed by GPs

Please note: this consultation has now ended

NHS England is consulting on a proposal to reduce the number of items routinely prescribed by GPs.

Last year 1.1 billion prescription items were dispensed in primary care at a cost of £9.2billion. This cost coupled with finite resources means it is important that the NHS achieves the greatest value from the money that it spends.

This is a national consultation, distinct from a similar consultation, 'Clinical Priority, Best Value', carried out by Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group earlier this year.

The consultation will run until 21st October.
