What is the ACTIVATE study?

ACTIVATE is a research study between Milton Keynes University Hospital and Loughborough University. The aim is for people with type 2 diabetes to be activated into better health, fitness, and all the life benefits that go hand in hand with that.

Patients with Type 2 diabetes are given an Apple watch to wear, which will monitor their activity levels. Blood glucose levels are also monitored, with incentives offered along the way such as retail vouchers.

Who is eligible?

Anyone who is registered with a GP in Milton Keynes, who has diagnosed type 2 diabetes, and who pays council tax to Milton Keynes City Council.

Patients need to be referred into the ACTIVATE study by their GP.

If you meet the criteria and are due a diabetes health check, or have had one recently, ask your GP to refer you to take part in the study.

If you’re registered with any of these GP practices, they have already signed up to be part of the research study:

Whaddon Medical Centre
Red House Surgery
Newport Pagnell Medical Centre
Wolverton Medical Centre
Westfield Road Surgery
Oakridge Park Medical Centre

These GP surgeries have recently expressed interest in joining the study:

Hilltops, Stony Stratford, and CMK surgery.

If your surgery isn’t already signed up, please feel free to mention it to them. We’re hearing that sign up numbers to the study at the moment are lower than hoped, so please ask your GP!
