Help create a new app for adults with type 2 diabetes

Local medical researchers are developing a smartphone app to help people with Type 2 diabetes be more active – and need your help.

Researchers from Milton Keynes University Hospital, Milton Keynes City Council, and Loughborough University are looking for local residents to join a public advisory group. The research team are looking for people to help shape an entire project ensuring it truly meets the needs of people living with Type 2 diabetes.

This research project aims to develop a new mobile health app that connects to a smartwatch (e.g. Apple Watch) to encourage physical activity and offer financial rewards (such as vouchers) when activity goals are met.

If you’d like to help make this app as useful and effective as possible, why not get involved.

Use your experience to make a difference

By joining this group, you will play an important role in shaping a mobile health app designed to support people with Type 2 diabetes in Milton Keynes.

Your input will help to:

  • Make sure the app meets the needs of people living with Type 2 diabetes.
  • Ensure the smartwatch and reward features are practical and motivating.
  • Help health professionals to communicate health advice in a clear and supportive way.

This is a chance to share your experiences, influence research, and help develop something that could benefit many others in your community by ensuring that diabetes care becomes more personalised, accessible, and effective, ultimately improving support for people managing Type 2 diabetes in their daily lives.

Your valuable feedback will help a team of researchers—including GPs, public health consultants, and experts in digital health and behaviour change—design a mobile health app that truly supports people living with Type 2 diabetes.

In gratitude for your time and contributions, the Trust will offer up to £50 in vouchers for your participation.

  • This will be provided as a voucher rather than a cash payment.
  • We will cover any reasonable expenses related to your involvement, such as internet data costs for remote participation.

How do I take part?

If you are over 18 years old and currently living with Type 2 diabetes in the Milton Keynes area, and are interested in improving the experience for future patients, please complete the 'expression of interest' form and the research team will be in touch.
