Supporting trans people in residential care homes, thanks to Milton Keynes Community Foundation

We’re excited to announce that Milton Keynes Community Foundation has awarded us funding to support residential home staff to understand the rights of trans people and how to better support them in residential care.

In partnership with Q:Alliance, we'll be delivering a two-day training event that supports care and residential home teams to talk about the challenges trans people face in residential care.

The training will be for care home managers in Milton Keynes, to nurture open discussions on the challenges of caring for older Transgender residents.

The training will take place over two days, and will cover issues including:

  • Terminology education: Providing clear definitions and explanations of terms related to gender identity, such as transgender, nonbinary, and genderqueer.
  • Understanding gender diversity: Helping participants recognize the diversity of gender experiences and identities beyond the binary.
  • Legal and policy awareness: Cover the relevant UK laws and policies related to transgender rights, workplace discrimination, and accommodations.
  • Creating an inclusive environment: Discussing practical steps for fostering an inclusive workplace, including respectful language, pronouns, and restroom facilities.
  • Challenging bias and stereotypes: Addressing common misconceptions and stereotypes about transgender individuals.
  • Supporting transgender employees: Provide resources for mental health support, transitioning, and workplace adjustments.
